"The One Thing"

Come and enjoy a life-giving Fall Day Retreat!

Saturday - Oct 9th, 2021

The Master(Jesus) said, “’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing.

One thing only is essential

Luke 10:42 MSG

In a world of a thousand choices.... I don't know about you... but I need simple and clear.

Come join us as we listen to Jesus' invitation to choose the ONE thing that is essential.

The retreat will be held Saturday, October 9th, 2021 from 9am - 4pm.

It will be held at St. Mary's of the Lake Conference Center in Mundelein, Illinois.

Open to both men & women age 18+.

The Retreat will include time for:

  • Nature Walks

  • Reflections and Guided Meditations on Scripture, poetry, music and art

  • Prayer Experiences, conversations and spiritual exercises

  • Some Quiet and Personal Reflection times

  • An optional add on 1-1 time of Spiritual Direction or Immanuel Healing prayer session, if desired and reserved prior -UPDATE: there are no longer any spots available for this (an additional fee is requested)

Why go on a retreat?

"Jesus invites us to be with him, offering our full and undivided attention to him. When we choose to retreat, we make a generous investment in our friendship with Christ. We are not always generous with ourselves where God is concerned. Many of us have tried to incorporate regular times of solitude and silence into the rhythm of our ordinary lives, which may mean that we give God twenty minutes here and half an hour there. And there’s no question we are better for it! But we need more.

Indeed, we long for more.

There has never been a time when the invitation to retreat is so radical and so relevant,

so needed and so welcome.

It is not a luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual life."

-Ruth Haley Barton, Invitation to Retreat

“If we don’t come apart for while,

we will come apart after awhile.”
–Dallas Willard

Come unto me,

all ye that labor and are heavy laden,

and I will give you rest!

(Mt 11:28)

What is a retreat?

A retreat is a sacred time set apart for you to withdraw from worldly life to be with God and rest.  There will be time to stop, breathe, listen, experience the present moment, smell the smells of fall, drink in some beauty and connect more fully with God who is love and also desires to be with you.

The Retreat Day Includes:  Lunch (consists of a hot buffet, a 23’ soup and salad buffet, and a full beverage bar), all needed materials, snacks & beverages during the day, meaningful meditations with spiritual practices, guided prayer, times of optional group sharing, and also time for some solitude & quiet personal reflection.

AND a stunningly beautiful campus to explore, filled with sacred statues, artwork, generous spaces, walking paths, benches, a glistening lake and the magnificent colors of fall will be in full array!

The purpose of this retreat is to offer some times of quiet listening and reflection to hear and experience a deepening of your relationship with the Lord.

Your retreat begins Saturday morning promptly at 9am  (but please come as early as 8:30am to park, find our meeting room, enjoy some coffee, say hello to old & new friends and get situated) we'll end by 4pm.

Requested Offering for the day: $75

This fee helps to offset the cost of the meeting room expense, meal, and the event insurance required.

If you would like to spend the night before or after the retreat(which I highly recommend!) you can arrange that on your own by calling the St Mary of the Lake Residence Hall at (847) 566-8290.

Add-on Spiritual Direction Session: $35 (UPDATED: there are no more 1-1sessions available)

(there are a limited number of available spaces, please sign up early and reserve a 45 minute session)

Please contact us if the retreat fee is an issue, we often have some scholarships and don't want anyone to miss out.

We also graciously receive any donations to be applied towards scholarships, so that all can attend.

Registration is Now Open! there are only a few spots left

We will follow the current Covid 19 guidelines of the retreat center at the time of the retreat. Currently masks are required indoors regardless of vaccination status.  We hope to sit outside for a portion of our time, if the weather permits.
